Google has worked a little World Cup magic for people looking for highlights from the competition by signing a deal with ESPN which will see visitors automatically sent across to the sports media company’s site.
Confirmed in a tweet from the official Google account and in a post on ESPN’s site, visitors will now be able to catch-up on highlights of previous (or ongoing) games without having to navigate around to find the correct match or other details about the game.
Instead, in-line search results will feature a screenshot from ESPN’s footage and link directly to ESPNfc when a user searches for a specific match. This won’t require any sort of cable subscription. On top of linking to clips, the timeline of information displayed will also show pertinent stats from that game – like goals, penalties, red cards – all within Google Search. If, however, you’re outside the US, you’re out of luck on this occasion and will just have to search the old fashioned way.
