Google Drive for iOS, Android updated with new spreadsheet editing support

Google has updated its Google Drive app for iOS and Android, adding support for creating, editing and collaborating on spreadsheets and the ability to upload files using the “Open in…” feature in other apps.

Additional changes to the iOS app (version 1.2) include:

  • Manage upload progress and see recent uploads in new Uploads section
  • Rich text copy-paste within a document
  • Improved speed and stability
  • Improved contact search for sharing

Update: After a short delay, the Android update (version 1.1.470.11) has also arrived, with the following changelog:

  • Edit Google spreadsheets in new native editor
  • Edit contents of tables in Google Docs editor
  • Formatting is maintained when copy/pasting within Google Docs
  • Single tap to enter edit mode in Google Docs editor
  • Add a shortcut to Drive files/folders to your homescreen for quick access
  • Send Link now supports copying link to clipboard

Google has been steadily integrating Drive with its other products. Earlier this week, it began allowing Drive embeds up to 10GB in Gmail messages. In October, the company added support for sharing Drive files on Google+.
