Attachments.me shutting down its Gmail file sharing service on November 11

Attachments.me shutting down its Gmail file sharing service on November 11

Attachments.me has just announced that it will be shutting down its service, effective November 11. The company has not cited a reason for the move. However, it did say that users who upgraded to any of its paid plans will receive a prorated refund. It suggests looking at alternatives such as Yesware, IFTTT, and Cloudy for Gmail.

If you’re not familiar with Attachments.me, it’s a service that enables you to share files from your hard drive or from the Cloud right in Gmail through the company’s website or using its iOS app. You could take a 100MB file and simply pass it along to a third-party without having to spend precious minutes or hours trying to upload it to Gmail. It even was integrated with Google Drive.

Company CEO and co-founder Jesse Miller has said Attachments.me’s mission was “to make sharing files in email a good experience for both the sender and receiver and finding.”

The company has been around for 2.5 years and received $2.5 million in funding, all from the Foundry Group.

While Attachments.me has not officially revealed the reason for its shuttering, one could speculate that it’s the battle it’s facing against competitors and the likes of Box, Dropbox, and Hightail — all of which have become more integrated into work solutions such as email, CRM systems, and more. But like that old adage goes, “keep your friends close, and your enemies closer“, Attachments.me partnered with these cloud storage providers and also Facebook to enable users to set rules to have attachments automatically organized and uploaded.

We’ve reached out to the company for more information and will update this if we hear back.

Not everyone is happy about the news:

If you are awaiting a refund, the company says that it may take a few days for it to show up on the card listed on your account:

Here’s the full announcement:

We are truly grateful for the support of our users over the last two and a half years. Unfortunately, the Attachments.me service is going to be shutting down on November 11th.

Users who upgraded to one of our paid plans on our website will receive a prorated refund. Users who upgraded through our iPhone App can request a refund through iTunes. Any data and personal information will be permanently deleted after shutdown.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Here are a couple of services we recommend for replacing our functionality:

Yesware: Look at their link tracking feature to replace our download tracking.

IFTTT: Look at their Gmail attachment recipes to replace our automatic filing rules.

Cloudy for Gmail: This chrome extension gives you access to Dropbox and other cloud storage services to get links to files.

Thank you for everything,

The Attachments.me Team
