Attachments.me launches redesigned iOS app, now shows Gmail attachments ‘in context’

Attachments.me has today launched a redesigned iOS app, just over a year since it first launched for Apple devices.

The new release comes as the San Francisco-based (formerly Toronto) startup announces it has transferred more than 1.5 million attachments into cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Box and Google Drive. You want more granular details, you say? That equates to a file being moved into someones cloud storage every four seconds.

Attachments.me produces tools to improve the overall Gmail experience, with apps (iOS) and plugins (Chrome and Firefox) to make finding and sharing files easier. Let’s call them attachments.

We first covered these guys last March, as it launched to help users find forgotten Gmail content. This was followed by its iOS app launch, before it rolled out a Chrome extension and secured a $2m funding round from Foundry Group.

Besides the sweet new design, what’s with the latest app? Well, it displays attachments in the context of the email which you received.

It also allows you to search through all your old attachments, and dispatch them to the cloud, or forward them on. Of course, you can also compose emails and attach files stored in the likes of Dropbox, Box or Google Drive.

“Our mission is to make sharing files in email a good experience for both the sender and receiver,” says CEO and co-founder Jesse Miller, “and finding and sharing attachments while on your phone is a big part of that.”
