George W. Bush Joins Facebook About 4 Years Too Late

Former US President George W. Bush joined Facebook today with his own fan/like page.

Of course, he’s only about 4 years late, but who’s counting right? Well, John McCain and the GOP might be…if the former president had had a strong Facebook presence prior to the 2008 election, he could have thrown a lot of additional social media juice towards that election.

The Bush Administration certainly was aware of Facebook – as we reported in April, Facebook actually came to then President Bush and asked the administration to set up a Facebook account, but the White House didn’t see the point, instead deciding to focus on Whitehouse.gov instead. Obviously, big mistake.

At any rate, here is Mr. Bush’s first wall post (which is obviously not him, as it speaks of him in the third person):

“Since leaving office, President Bush has remained active. He has visited 20 states and 8 countries; given over 65 speeches; launched the George W. Bush Presidential Center; participated in 4 policy conferences through The Bush Institute; finished the first draft of his memoir, “Decision Points”; and partnered with President Clinton to establish the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. More on his activities in future posts…”

The former president currently has 12,324 likes/fans/whatever they’re called now. Expect this to grow to well over 100,000 by the end of the day. In comparison, current President Barack Obama’s fan page has 8,616,076 fans.
