Following the notion that spending time together during the holidays is more important than commercialism, littleBits, an open source library of electronic modules that snap together with tiny magnets for prototyping and play, has released a new Holiday Kit.
The $40 kit (ok, there’s some commercialism involved) lets kids and adults create ornaments and other decorations while learning a bit about electronics and engineering.
These kits don’t require soldering, wiring or programming, but may provide an interesting experience for kids and parents. They’re educational and are just as much about the process as they are about the result, perhaps leading to fond, distant memories of good ol’ fashion tinkering with mom or dad.
Here’s what the kit includes:
A double-sided instruction sheet with quick start guide and project suggestions
A custom-made 9V battery + cable
A 9V battery connector.
Custom plastic screwdriver
7 littleBits:
• power
• pulse
• light wire
• dc motor
• bright led
• wire x2
