Food delivery website Pedidos Ya now operates in Peru and in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, Brazilian blog Webholic reports. Following its expansion, the Uruguayan startup is now operating in seven Latin American territories – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Puerto Rico and Uruguay.
Pedidos Ya currently boasts a database of over 4,000 restaurants, including 200 in Peru. According to its marketing director, Alvaro Garcia, the country is a welcome addition to its offering:
“The Peruvian cuisine is well recognized in Latin America – so much than there are many restaurants specialized in this type of food in the main cities of the countries in which we operates. In addition, the country has a strong delivery culture, so it is part of our goals to be present in Peru and seize the many opportunities it represents for us.”
Peru aside, the startup is also pursuing its expansion in Brazil, where it is known as Pedidos Já. Belo Horizonte is the country’s third largest metropolitan area, which makes it a strategic target for the company as competition is stirring up.
As we reported, the food delivery space is heating up in Latin America. While Pedidos Ya is backed by London-based VC fund Atomico and by Kaszek Ventures, it will have to compete against Brazil’s Peixe Urbano.
As you may remember, the company is expanding its scope beyond daily deals, and bought a food delivery startup which now operates as Peixe Urbano Delivery in Rio de Janeiro, Campinas and São Paulo.
