If you’re not yet familiar with Flud and its nifty news reader app, maybe it’s because it’s only been available for iOS devices (iTunes link) until very recently.
Earlier this morning, the company formally launched its Flud 2.0 news reading app for Android on Google Play, and it’s well worth the – free – download.
Billed as a “next-generation social and mobile news reader”, Flud does a pretty good job of marrying information consumption with social sharing.
The app basically enables “fluders”, as users are called, to easily and swiftly recommended news articles and blog posts to members of their social graph, discover information and fresh sources from their own friends, keep track of trends and industries, and create a customized news frontpage tailored to their interests.

Says Flud co-founder and CEO Bobby Ghoshal:
“First there was Instagram for photos, then Spotify for music, now Flud for news. We think the future of news has a lot to do with filtering out the noise. A specialized network designed for news content is in high demand and now we are the first to bring it to Android.”
New features in Flud include syncing between devices and easier access to premium content sources. The app supports connections to Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, Google Reader, Read It Later and Instapaper.
Flud says a version for Android tablets and a Windows Phone app are both ‘coming soon’. If you’re into funky social news readers, you might also want to check out Flipboard, Pulse, Zinio, Google Currents and Zite.
Founded in October 2010, Flud is backed by Detroit Venture Partners and Ludlow Ventures. The startup has offices in based in San Diego, CA and downtown Detroit.
