Flip Video gets social and rolls out iPad app

Flip Video has announced a new version of its FlipShare software with social features, as well as mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

For iPad owners this is pretty cool news and I know a few folks that can’t wait to get their hands on this.

Existing users will be notified of the available upgrade automatically in the month of April when they open the FlipShare application, or users can go to FlipShare.com to download it from April 4th.

If you have a Flip, The FlipShare software comes with every Flip video camera. You will be happy to know it now has enhanced video sharing capabilities. For starters the software includes FlipShare Groups, a new and social way for Flip lovers to share video more securely with friends and family. After creating a FlipShare Group, users and their friends can access their videos from FlipShare.com and through the FlipShare Mobile apps that are now available for iPhone, iPad and Android. Once the group is created, FlipShare Groups users can comment, read and post messages on each other’s videos and Groups.

FlipShare continues to allow unlimited private video sharing via email without huge attachments filling up inboxes and now features an improved greetings card library including animated and even personalised card templates to create individual messages. Compatible with both Mac and PC computers, FlipShare users can now import their contacts directly from Gmail, MSN, Yahoo and AOL to create address books to share their videos with.

Peter Groom, UK & Ireland Region Manager for Flip Video at Cisco states:

Capturing precious moments is just the first step because as soon as you have the footage you want to share it with friends and family. We have always looked to provide the best user-experience to easily shoot, connect and share high quality video and the upgraded FlipShare software now makes it even easier for Flip owners.

Mobile Apps get a healthy dose of new features:

What is a very interesting move, the software is available for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Android – with or without owning a Flip video camera.  That’s right.. You can take advantage of all the software goodness even if you do not own a Flip.

With the new app, mobile and iPad users can share up to five mobile videos and/or photos at once to Facebook, YouTube or Twitter – or send directly to friends and family.  All this is done with 1 click of a button.

The new app is compatible with iPhone 3G or higher, iPod Touch 2nd generation or higher, iPad  Requires iOS 4.0.0 or higher, and Android 1.6 or higher and is available now iTunes Store and Android Market.

This should be really good news for Flip owners who want an easy way to share their videos.
