Flickr redesigns photo embedding on the Web [update]

Yahoo’s Flickr is playing catch-up with the launch of a new Web embedding feature that lets users embed full-bleed photos with links back to their Flickr accounts.

Update: An earlier version of this article inaccurately noted that embedding itself is new.  We apologize for the mistake.

To try it out, you’ll need to enable the beta version of Flickr’s new photo experience. Then hit the share button on a photo page and click the < / > symbol.

The update was long overdue, as the social web, including Instagram, Vine, Facebook, has introduced a modern style for embedding content.

Sadly, the feature still needs some polish. Clicking the links on the embed only worked part of the time for me.

Initial response to the new feature seems to be mixed. The embeds do look great without a frame, but the perpetual Flickr logo in the corner is a buzzkill.
