The Firefox OS ZTE Open will go on sale in the US and UK for $79.99…unlocked and exclusive to eBay

Two weeks after the ZTE Open was introduced to Colombia and Venezuela, the Chinese telecommunications giant has announced that the Firefox OS-based device will be landing in the US and UK…via eBay.

Firefox OS devices differ from most other smartphones as they are built using an open source platform based largely around HTML5. Mozilla, creator of the platform, has previously stated that devices that run the software will be primarily targeted at emerging markets, though with today’s news it is clearly looking at all markets.

If you want to grab yourself a ZTE Open, you can do so “soon” from ZTE’s UK eBay Store, and its US equivalent. The unlocked device comes in bright orange, and is priced at $79.99 (£59.99).

Meanwhile, check out our hands-on with the ZTE Open and Alcatel One Touch Fire from Mobile World Congress earlier this year.
