If you think Alibaba selling planes on its Taobao marketplace was already a shock, try space travel.
Orders open tomorrow on Taobao for a trip to space organized by Space Expedition Corporation, with prices starting from CNY599,999 ($96,400). The flight itself, however, is scheduled for March next year.
Alibaba’s Taobao marketplace sells a wide variety of products — pinned at around 8 million SKUs (stock keeping units) — giving new meaning to selling anything and everything online. It’s no wonder Alibaba probably has its eye set on the US, as it can compete with eBay, Amazon and Walmart simply with the scale of its products.
