Today, Facebook at its media event at its Menlo Park campus announced Home, a new method for users of the social service to deeply integrate it into their handsets.

The company also stated that Home will be available starting on Android phones starting April 12th. Tablet

Users of Android that have the most recent Facebook application will be prompted to head to the Google Play store to download it. There will be two options: to have it run as an application, or as the deep launcher that Facebook envisions for its daily use.

Only select handsets will be able to run Home from the start, including the HTC One, HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S III & S4, and Galaxy Note II.

It is not clear at this point how quickly Facebook will roll out the Home service to other handsets. iOS users need not apply, naturally, as Apple does not allow for such deep tinkering with its operating system.

The company has promised to update the product every month. The company showed a year calendar, in which various dates were circled; in short, unlike Patch Tuesday, updates to Home will be a bit irregular.
