Surprise spoiled

Facebook is all set to make a big announcement about its new smart glasses with Ray-Ban tonight. But before the company makes the announcement, we’ve already had our first look at the glasses through leaked pictures — and they look like Snap’s glasses.

Evan Blass has spoiled Facebook’s launch surprise a little bit by tweeting out pictures of the upcoming product. So what do we get to know from these? The glasses could be called Ray-Ban Stories and could feature some camera functions.

Blass’ images also reveal that these smart glasses could come in three frame styles: Wayfarer, Round, and Meteor. So if you’re thinking of buying one, you’d have multiple options to choose from.

While Wayfarer and Meteor frames might look different to you at the first glance, the Round frame certainly reminds me of the Snap Spectacles.

Apart from the glasses, you’ll get a protective hard case, a protection bag, and a charging cable in the box.

While we don’t know much about the ‘smart’ features of these glasses, we know that there’s not going to be any kind of AR functionality. Now that we know how Facebook-Ray Ban’s glasses look like, we’ll have to wait and see if they have any surprising features.

Also, as my colleague Callum pointed out in his piece, hardware with camera and Facebook name associated with it gives you a bit of scare. The company will have to be loud and clear about how it collects and uses user data, because the layer of trust is very thin.
