First launched back in November 2010 by social games publisher We R Interactive, social football game I Am Playr came out of beta in October last year, and it has now announced that it’s notching up a cool one million monthly active users around the world.
If you’re new to the game, I Am Playr is an interesting idea, in that it offers a first-person perspective social football game, letting users live the life of a professional footballer, putting themselves up against their friends and the rest of the world.
Here’s a preview video, starring former professional footballer Teddy Sheringham:

We last reported on these guys back in February, when the good people behind the game started offering physical merchandise for its fictional football club River Park FC, via a dedicated Facebook store. And it’s startling to see the uptake the game is getting globally, with players in more than 210 countries around the world. It even secured a nomination for a BAFTA Video Game Award in the ‘best online browser’ category this year.
“Our aim is for I Am Playr to be the world’s biggest, most authentic online football game and to have reached this milestone and be able to stake our claim as the biggest Facebook Unity game just six months since launch is a pretty incredible achievement,” says David Rose, CEO at We R Interactive. “Fuelling further growth, development of the mobile version of I Am Playr is well underway in preparation for the Euros 2012.”
We R Interactive is also developing a music game called I Am Star, whilst further sports titles are in the works.
