After reporting its Q1 2013 financial results, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg stated that 40% of all top grossing iOS and Android apps use ads on Facebook’s platform to boost downloads.
More specifically, these apps are utilizing Facebook’s Mobile App Install Ads, which push Facebook users to try new apps. Sandberg also shared that “3,800 developers used these ads to drive nearly 25 million downloads” during last quarter.
This news reflects Facebook’s reach among top app developers. How successful these ads were in actually encouraging new downloads has yet to be seen — next quarter’s uptake will reflect if Facebook’s app install ads have legs.
This news follows a mixed first quarter for Facebook, in which the company reported $1.46B in revenue and earnings per share of $0.12. The company saw 751M mobile users for its most recent quarter, with $375M or 30% of ad revenue coming from mobile.
In addition, the company shared that it has passed 1.11 billion monthly active users, 751 million mobile users, and 665 million daily users. And finally, Facebook’s Chief Accounting Officer David Spillane is stepping down — read more on that here.
