Facebook App Center officially rolling out across the UK

Facebook App Center officially rolling out across the UK

This morning if you logged into your Facebook account in the UK, it’s likely that you will have noticed a persistent little pop-up notification alerting you to the arrival of the App Center.

We certainly knew that this was coming and folk in America may already have access to the place on Facebook for discovering and developing games and tools.

The Europe-facing App Center includes recognisable names from this part of the world including Deezer, The Guardian, Livesport.TV and King.com games.

There are so many applications available on Facebook now and the App Center hopes to make navigation around this a little easier. There are timeline, mobile and web app categories as well as divisions for games, travel, sport, music and news among other activities.

You can also take a look at the tools and applications that your friends are using as a way to choose what might suit you. Each type of application is also sorted into trending, recommended and top rated, as you might expect from any app store.

Getting an app into the top segment for promotion is probably the nirvana all developers would hope for. It will be interesting to see the choices that end up in that spot. Alongside the app lists there are promoted applications too, so there is a chance that we will be seeing some battles for attention as the App Center becomes a more integrated part of life on Facebook.

Though the interface is clear and navigation is simple enough, Web users are getting accustomed to the presentation and navigation methods for app discover. It makes us wonder if there is room for innovation in this space or if users are simply happy with the clearest form of access.
