Tonight at an event in San Francisco, Facebook has announced that its Open Graph initiative, first mentioned during last year’s f8 conference, is now expanding with sixty new partners.
Update: Facebook has released details of the initial 60 apps, you can see them all here.
A handful of developers have been invited to develop for Open Graph, and the platform has now expanded. Spotify and Rdio have been Open Graph partners from day one, allowing you to see what your friends are listening to in real-time on Facebook’s ticker.
Now that Open Graph is available to more developers, we’ll see more verbs other than “listen”, like “watching”, “reading”, and more. The company has strict guidelines over acceptable verbs, so it will be interesting to see how creative developers get.
Along with the sixty new partners, including Pinterest, Ticketmaster, Airbnb, the company will start accepting applications from new developers. Today, the company also launched a new application process that makes it easier for users to understand what will happen once they install the app.
Timeline is at the crux of this Open Graph initiative, on your activity on these apps will show up on the right hand side.
One of the coolest apps demoing is Pinterest, which allows you to share things that you pin on the site, allowing your friends to add it to their pinboard right from Facebook. We’ll be doing a deeper dive into the new integrations, so keep an eye on our Facebook channel.
