Facebook adds Halloween Reaction buttons and spooky live video masks

Facebook is learning a few new tricks to treat you to some Halloween ghoulishness.

First up, now that themeing reaction buttons is basically the company’s take on the Google Doodle concept, Facebook is spookifying its set of five reactions. The like button now ‘zaps’ you, the ‘wow’ reaction is a ghoul, and you can complain about the election with an angry pumpkin.

Secondly, Facebook now supports an assortment of Snapchat-like masks in live video, including a few limited edition creepy ones for the holiday. These are a result of its purchase of face-swap app MSQRD, which already supported Live video, but now you can apply the masks right from within Facebook.

To try it out, just start broadcasting by pressing the Live Video icon on top your Timeline, News Feed or Page, then tap on the magic wand button on the upper left corner of the screen to select a filter.

Masks are rolling out to iOS users in the US, UK and New Zealand. Sorry team Android, you’ll have to miss out on your virtual Halloween costume – Facebook says masks will arrive “in the coming months.” The themed Reactions should be available to everyone soon.
