Evernote inks its first-ever reseller agreement, as it links up with NTT Docomo in Japan

Evernote inks its first-ever reseller agreement, as it links up with NTT Docomo in Japan

Evernote has inked several partnerships with carriers all over the world to offer their customers a Premium subscription for free for a limited period of time, but now it has arrived at a new kind of deal with NTT Docomo in Japan — its first-ever reseller agreement.

The two companies announced today an agreement to offer Evernote Business in Japan through Docomo’s sales channel, starting July 1. This will help make for an easier billing process for existing Docomo customers, which likely means that they can include the subscription payment as part of their monthly telecom contract instead of having a separate bill. Docomo also said it will market Evernote Business through its Business Plus corporate cloud service.

Other partnerships that Evernote has in Asia include one with Starhub in Singapore, Taiwan Mobile and Apple premium reseller Studio A in Taiwan, as well as South Korea with Kakao Talk. Evernote also launched Yinxiang Biji, a dedicated service for China, in May 2012, before opening up Yinxiang Biji Business in May last year. Its open APIs have seen Evernote linked with Tencent-owned messaging service WeChat — which means WeChat users can choose to export their conversations into Evernote.

Evernote’s business-focused service expands on its standard and premium offerings, offering additional features such as administrative control, user management, and increased storage capacity. It is an area with the most potential for monetization, and partnering with a carrier to widen its reach is a strategic move on Evernote’s part to increase take-up of its Business service in Asia.

After all, Evernote just reached more than 100 million registered users, and the majority (35 million) are in Asia-Pacific — which makes it a region the company should step up its efforts in.
