EPIX has announced that it will be landing on PlayStation 3 in the first quarter of 2013, followed by a version of the app for Vita later in the spring.
Just to recap, EPIX is a joint venture between Viacom Inc, its Paramount Pictures unit, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM) and Lionsgate. It touts itself as a “premium entertainment network”, delivering movies, classic titles, original films, comedy, music and sports to viewers across the US.
The service is already available for Android, BlackBerry PlayBook, iOS, Google TV, Kindle Fire, Roku and Xbox 360, so the news that PS3 and Vita will be thrown into the mix will be welcomed.
More than 3,000 titles will be made available, including HD releases such as Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol, The Hunger Games, Thor and more. The lineup also includes EPIX original programming, featuring marquee concert, comedy, and sporting events.
The ability to stream full movies and concerts on the PS3 and PS Vita is included as part of the EPIX premium subscription service available through cable, satellite and telco distributors.
Launched in October 2009 as a multiplatform premium network with online accessibility for subscribers through EpixHD.com, EPIX became the first premium network to launch on Xbox gaming consoles, as well as Android and Roku. It’s available to more than thirty million homes across the US, through distribution partners including Charter Communications, Cox Communications, DISH Network, Mediacom Communications, NCTC, Suddenlink Communications and Verizon FiOS.
Back in September, Amazon inked a multi-year deal with EPIX to bring its slew of programmes and movies to Prime Instant Video.
