eBay redesigns eBay Now for iPhone, plans Android app and Bay Area, NYC expansion in ‘coming weeks’

eBay redesigns eBay Now for iPhone, plans Android app and Bay Area, NYC expansion in ‘coming weeks’

While eBay has kept itself busy lately with sales tax legislation, the eBay Now team has a number of announcements to share today: the eBay Now iPhone app is hitting version 2.0, with a redesigned look, support for both PayPal and credit cards, improved search and “the ability to shop while waiting for the valet to deliver an order.” Additionally, eBay is announcing plans to launch an Android app and expand to the Bay Area Peninsula, Queens and Brooklyn “in the coming weeks.”

This news comes as delivery service startups experience a wave of growth. Just last month, Postmates launched in New York after debuting in San Francisco and SeattleWunWun has seen great success in New York as well. eBay is positioning itself to directly compete with companies like these, as it looks to find a place in your daily (local) life.

With this flurry of news, eBay has shared details on how shoppers are using eBay Now. eBay says they’re “using it to replace forgotten necessities like phone chargers,” and in New York, “eBay Now has seen an increase in orders for small air conditioners. Busy shoppers are also using eBay Now for its convenience, ordering everyday items like toasters and even iPads.” Unsurprisingly, eBay says its service is most popular while customers are at work.

As you may know, eBay Now is already available in San Francisco, San Jose and Manhattan. Word has been out that Chicago and Dallas expansions are coming this summer, too. Clearly, eBay is hoping to gain an edge over competition this summer — whether or not that happens is another story.
