One year after SRI International spinout Desti launched its smart travel guide iPad app, a handful of new features have been added, including road trip-planning and vacation-rental search.
Since 2011, Desti has been tapping similar artificial intelligence technology to that of Siri, except it’s focused on one specific realm: travel. During its public beta phase, Desti for iPad was helping users plan trips in the Northern California region only. The app shed its beta tags this summer and caters for trips across the US.
From today, a new Plan-on-Map feature lets you pinch-and-zoom to find temporary stopovers en-route to your destination, or that long-planned road-trip, and you simply swipe-up to add a location to your trip. It also pulls in information from two large vacation rentals sites – VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner) and HomeAway, which can be narrowed down by criteria such as ‘kid-friendly’, ‘close to wineries’, and more.
Additionally, you can now connect with buddies within the app, with a new ‘Plan Together’ feature doing exactly what it says on the box – it lets you collaborate and share suggestions.
