Citrix acquires online collaboration platform Podio

Citrix acquires online collaboration platform Podio

Citrix has announced that it has acquired Podio, the Copenhagen-based online collaboration service.

Aimed at businesses, Podio is a service that allows users to create their own apps for use within their teams. So, the accountancy team could create an app to automate their workflow, for example.

Founded by Jon Froda and Anders Pollas in 2009, Podio took on a $4m Series A round early last year, led by Denmark’s Sunstone Capital. Podio expanded to the US in 2011, with the opening of a San Francisco office last year. The launch of its presence in the States was particularly notable as the startup opened a pop-up store with special events running over a number of days.

Now as part of Citrix, Podio will become part of the GoTo cloud services portfolio, which includes the likes of GoToMeeting.

The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, although it’s the second exit for CEO Tommy Ahlers, who previously sold ‘social phonebook’ startup ZYB to Vodafone in 2008 for €31 million.
