CBS executive: Apple talking to ‘everyone’ about streaming TV service

CBS executive Les Moonves says Apple is “having conversations with everyone” for a streaming service, likely destined for Apple TV.

Original reports suggested a streaming service from Apple would debut alongside the new Apple TV. Those plans were reportedly shelved because Apple was unable to secure streaming agreements in time. Many believe the streaming service will debut in 2016.

Moonves tells Bloomberg CBS will “probably” sign a deal with Apple, but says he isn’t sure when it might come to fruition. CBS’ existing iOS app replays shows, but doesn’t offer a standalone, live viewing option.

The CBS executive went on to say ‘skinny bundles,’ like those offered by Sling TV, have put pressure on traditional cable operators. It’s not clear if Apple is seeking to bundle popular channels together, or offer individual subscriptions like we have with HBO Now or Netflix.
