Belkin has announced a multi-year licensing partnership with The LEGO Group today, which will see the company’s iconic multi-colored building blocks transformed into smartphone accessories.
Belkin will launch a range of cases in spring 2013, focused on the iPhone and iPad. The company said today it will expand to other platforms “over the course of the partnership”, no doubt hinting at covers for specific Android devices, and maybe even something for BlackBerry 10 or Windows Phone 8 handsets.
A few companies have tried to capitalize on the popularity of LEGO for smartphone accessories, but to date no-one has landed the official support of the Danish building block company.
Belkin will be able to produce some new and exciting cases as a result, no doubt feeding off our nostalgia for the multi-colored bricks and yellow plastic men with tiny curved hands.
Of course for LEGO, it’s just one more opportunity to merchandise the brand, adding exposure to its line of popular toys and also attracting new consumers in the process.
