Bing app gets a US update, gets pulled everywhere else

In a strange move, Microsoft have launched an updated Bing app. That’s not strange, but you can only get it if you are in the United States. If you are in any other territory forget it. Bing has been removed from all other app stores.

In a response to cnet, Microsoft stated that the Bing release to international markets was inadvertant and should not have happened. Now, in my book if I launched an app that wasn’t meant for international countries, I would pull it in the first hour not three months down the line.

However, don’t lose heart, they are working on a ‘proper’ international version,

We are planning to release international versions of the Bing iPhone application, but we have no dates to share at this time,” the company said. “Similar to our larger international strategy with Bing, we don’t want to take a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we want to be thoughtful and ensure we’re customizing the product for specific markets.

So, if you are in the United States, you can enjoy new copy and past features, social bookmarking, location setting and support for all generations of iPod touches. The rest of us will just have to pretend their existing app can do all these things.
