ASUS debuts the world’s first monitor to run on just USB Type-C

ASUS debuts the world’s first monitor to run on just USB Type-C

Today at CES, hardware maker ASUS launched a portable monitor that runs off a single USB Type-C connection for power and video transmission — a world first that takes advantage of the new cable standard.

The MB169C+ features a 15.6-inch Full HD display and is only 8.5mm thick. It’s based on the USB 3.0-powered MB168B and weighs only 800g, like its predecessor.

However, a significant upgrade in this version is the IPS display panel over the previous TN panel, which should allow for better color reproduction and wider viewing angles.

With its USB Type-C connector and slim profile, the MB169C+ could be useful for people who need additional screen real estate when working on the go. It’ll play nicely with devices like the latest MacBook, the Chromebook Pixel and the ASUS Transformer Book T100HA.

ASUS hasn’t announced pricing or availability for this model, but based on its predecessors’ price tags, we can expect it to cost a little over $200.
