The Apple Car is a topic of widespread debate and discussion, and this news won’t help: Apple has registered the Apple.auto, Apple.car and Apple.cars domains.
First spotted by Mac Rumors, Apple has registered the domains late last year, though none of them are active (which you probably knew because you checked before you even got this far down, didn’t you?).
It’s obviously not clear what Apple is doing, here. As alluded to earlier, it may be domain squatting to prevent hoaxes, but there’s too much evidence Apple is working on something automotive to think that’s the only reason it snapped these domains up. It’s hard to believe any of this is related to CarPlay; it’s just not that big of a deal to warrant its own site.
Faraday Future is believed by some to be an Apple partner, and others like Tesla’s Elon Musk have hinted Apple is aggressively pursuing experts in the automated or electric car field.
Sadly, iFans can’t look to this news as proof Apple has anything coming soon. It’s still early days for whatever automotive project the company may be working on, but at least we have a better idea of where Apple will direct us for info when all is revealed.
