Apple ‘AirPods’ pop up again, suggest wireless sound for iPhone 7

As we look to the unveiling of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, we’re also keeping an eye on the headphone space. Apple may have what we’re looking for, too, if an ‘AirPods’ device registration spotted in Europe is any indication.

First spotted by mobiltelefon.ru, AirPods were listed as a device alongside a slew of Apple Watches and two other devices, believed to be the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

In addition to the new iPhones, Apple is said to unveil new Apple Watch hardware next week. It’s not clear if the listing is for those new watches, but it’s entirely possible.

We also don’t get any insight on what ‘AirPods’ are, though the name suggests they’re wireless EarPods. We’ve heard rumors that Apple would be creating a Dash-like wireless device, even if it packages Lightning EarPods with the new iPhones.

Apple Insider notes the AirPods name first popped up last year, and is trademarked as a listening device.

While some speculate Apple may bundle a wireless headset with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, my money is on these being an upsell. In the box, you’re likely to see Lightning-equipped EarPods, with AirPods being sold in-store.
