ACDSee launches combo asset manager-photo editor to compete with Adobe

ACDSee launches combo asset manager-photo editor to compete with Adobe

While Adobe’s massive Creative Cloud suite— starring Photoshop, Illustrator, and a host of Web and video apps — may fairly be considered the creative software gold standard, other app developers are intent on getting in on that action. ACDSee has been prominent, especially on the Windows platform, with its digital asset management as well as creative packages like Canvas Pro.

Today, the company moved further into that space by launching ACDSee Ultimate 8, which mixes its specialty in asset management with a new layered photo editor, to provide enhanced pro-level photo manipulation capabilities.

Targeted to sophisticated amateurs as well as professional graphic designers, ACDSee Ultimate 8 combines layers, GPU-accelerated image processing and support for 32-bit and 64-bit transparency with all of the photo adjustment and management capabilities available in ACDSee Pro 8 and ACDSee 18 products.

These give users more control over images with the ability to merge photos, add text, apply effects and edit each layer individually.

With this new product, ACDSee is concentrating on the intersection between amateur and pro with the belief that the gap is narrowing.

The new software lets you create, reorder, merge and manipulate individual layers and manipulate parts of images without affecting other areas. You can also apply filters and effects to layers, apply pixel targeting to layers, add new images as layers to create collages and image compositions and add text and watermarks as a layer.

The software is compatible with Windows 7 or higher and requires at least an Intel Pentium 4

ACDSee Ultimate 8 is available for $149.99.
