Turtle Beach’s crazy new directional speakers are made from glass

If you’re in the market for impressive speakers that will wow your guests, skip the vast range of Bluetooth boxes and check out Turtle Beach’s new set, which is made of glass.

You read that right: the HyperSound Glass speakers are made from thin, transparent panes of glass and are directional, which means they focus sound only where they’re aimed, similar to how a flashlight directs a beam of light.

The video above should give you an idea of what that’s like. Each glass pane is layered with transparent films that allow it to generate a beam of ultrasound that is digitally processed to deliver audio in a single direction. The speakers are still in the prototype phase, so it’ll be a while before you can hide them in your living room in plain sight.
