When you’re on the hunt for a new job, there are a number of things to consider. We all have our personal list of what we want from a job. It might be a great pension scheme, incredible annual leave allowances (this is a big one for me personally!), or a fantastic culture. However, one thing we can all pretty much agree on is the importance of the salary on offer.
We know money isn’t everything when it comes to choosing a job, but we can’t deny that it’s fairly important. The mortgage isn’t going to pay for itself at the end of the day, is it? So, before you take a leap into a role, you may be interested to know which are the highest paying tech jobs for engineers in the UK right now.
We had a look through Indeed’s Salary Calculator, and identified the top five:
Chief Technology Officer
Average annual salary in the UK: £85,396
A chief technology officer is an executive position within a corporation. In this role, the officer is in charge of overseeing a company’s resource and development department and its tech department. Their main job duties include researching new technologies and identifying weaknesses within the company that could benefit from new tech.
DevOps Engineer
Average annual salary in the UK: £63,099
DevOps engineers build, test, and maintain the infrastructure and tools needed to allow for the speedy development and release of software. DevOps practices aim to simplify the development process of software. DevOps engineers are instrumental in combining code, application maintenance, and application management. All of these tasks rely on understanding not only development life cycles, but DevOps culture, and its philosophy, practices, and tools.
Big Data Engineer
Average annual salary in the UK: £57,849
A Big Data Engineer creates and manages a company’s Big Data infrastructure and tools, and is someone who knows how to get results from vast amounts of data quickly. The actual definition of this role varies, and often mixes with the Data Scientist role.
Cloud Engineer
Average annual salary in the UK: £55,960
Cloud engineers are IT professionals who work with the technicalities that come with the ever-increasing cloud work environment. This includes planning, managing, designing, and monitoring cloud systems. It also includes having a skill set that would allow for the deployment of cloud applications. More specifically, a cloud engineer’s role can be broken down to focus on the particular expertise of those responsible for specific segments within the cloud environment.
IoT Engineer
Average annual salary in the UK: £47,224
A specialist in connected objects, an IoT engineer develops innovative services that help users to receive, control and manage information. They’re also in charge of developing and managing a vast array of IoT devices, platforms, software, hardware, and systems through a combination of data, technology, and research.
