Microsoft’s revamped Paint app lets you draw in 3D – and it looks awesome

More than 30 years after its initial release in 1985, the classic Microsoft Paint app is poised to make a comeback – and it seems like it’s actually gonna be useful this time around.

Microsoft is reportedly developing a new and improved version of Paint specifically designed for Windows 10. Among other things, the revamped app will offer a wide range of fresh brushes and tools as well as the ability to draw in 3D.

The news comes after noted Microsoft enthusiast WalkingCat shared two short video demonstrations of the updated Paint app via Twitter over the weekend.

It appears that the overhauled version of Paint has been developed with the Microsoft Surface Pen in mind as the app now supports a wide range of tools with touch capabilities.

Earlier this year, WalkingCat first speculated about Paint’s possible comeback when he came across a series of leaked screenshots of a mysterious app – called ‘New Paint’ – that he was quick to show to the Twitterverse.

There’s no mention of a release date yet, but Microsoft will likely reveal more about the update at its special event in New York on October 26, where the tech giant is also expected to unveil its new Surface device.

Until then, take a peek at the videos above to get a better idea of what to expect.

And in case you’re too eager to wait for the official launch, WalkingCat has also shared a link with instructions (in Italian) on how to download and install the revamped reiteration of Paint. Feel free to try it out at your own risk by clicking here.
