Amazon’s LoveFilm inks Scripps deal to serve up cooking and lifestyle shows from Food Network and Travel Channel

Amazon-owned Netflix rival LoveFilm has inked a deal with Scripps Networks Interactive to bring a slew of food and lifestyle programming to its online ‘Instant’ streaming service in the UK.

The deal represents LoveFilm’s first venture into culinary content, and will see shows such as Man Vs. Food Nation, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, and Restaurant: Impossible offered to subscribers.

Scripps Networks Interactive is a US media company that was spun out from the E. W. Scripps Company back in 2008, and counts HGTV, Food Network, DIY Network, Cooking Channel, Travel Channel and Great American Country (GAC) among its networks.

In terms of LoveFilm, the streaming service will tap content specifically from Food Network and Travel Channel, and follows the news from earlier this year that Amazon had signed a similar deal with Scripps for its US-focused service, Amazon Instant Video. This was the first online-only subscription distribution deal for Scripps in the US.

“We’re delighted to announce this latest deal with Scripps Networks Interactive, which brings something very different and exciting to our members,” says Simon Morris, Chief Marketing Officer at LoveFilm. “There is no doubt that we are a nation of foodies, and it’s great that this deal will enable us to meet increasing viewer demands for this particular type of content.”
