So here you thought because you were wise enough not to get involved with Twitter, you would also escape the long arm of its advertising schemes. The joke may be on you.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Twitter, in a presentation to media buyers at CES, is planning to rope even non-users of its service into a new ad strategy. This involves selling ads embedded within tweets on third-party publishers’ sites and apps wherein Twitter would split the ad revenue with those publishers.
The idea is that Twitter already gets a huge number of eyeballs outside of its formal user base and is now seeking to capitalize on that for the benefit of shareholders.
While it looks like this is still in the planning stages and nothing has yet been finalized, certain names — like the ESPN SportsCenter app and Flipboard — have emerged as possible partners.
