YouTube multi-channel network Fullscreen has acquired Supernova, the newly-rebranded startup behind the Viddy social video service.
Supernova also makes the Clique anonymous messaging app and Ep1c, an app for sharing slow motion videos.
Viddy topped App Store charts in 2012 with its so-called “Instagram of video” service, but it was unable to keep up the momentum. The startup rebranded itself as Supernova last November.
According to Fullscreen CEO George Strompolos, 40 percent of the firm’s viewership comes from mobile. Picking up Supernova should speed up Fullscreen’s efforts to tailor its products and network for mobile audiences.
