Richard Branson says Virgin Galactic now accepts Bitcoins for its suborbital spaceflights

Bitcoin has hit a new milestone: You can now use the digital currency to pay for a suborbital spaceflight with Virgin Galactic.

A female flight attendant from Hawaii has already bought a ticket for an upcoming trip using Bitcoins, and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson says he expects “many more to follow in her footsteps.”

The world-renowned entrepreneur has bought some Bitcoins of his own and thinks that the concept behind the currency is fascinating. “For people who can afford to invest a little in bitcoins, it’s worth looking into,” he added.

The first commercial space flight on Virgin Galactic’s VSS Enterprise is scheduled for August next year.
