Mobile online payments company Boku completed its first acquisition, after buying direct carrier billing service Qubecell in an undisclosed amount. The move allows Boku to establish a strong foothold in India and to properly look towards improving its presence in Asia and the Middle East.
Qubecell’s employees, technology, and relationships are all part of the deal and will eventually be rolled into the Boku brand.
The Boku-Qubecell relationship isn’t anything new — both companies have worked closely over the past year and identified a “great cultural fit”. Jon Prideaux, Boku’s Chief Business Officer, says that Qubecell’s experience with four of India’s largest carrier networks and local merchants is an important part of the acquisition.
