HP’s new slick PC resembles a speaker, but it’s so much more

While Apple is seemingly in no rush to refresh its desktop series, today HP announced a new line of PCs – the Pavillion Wave. Slated to launch later in September, the device resembles a sleekly designed speaker, but don’t let appearances fool you – it’s much more than that.

Like the Mac Pro, the Wave comes in a compact cylindrical design that combines style and power in a tiny triangular box that will conveniently blend with the rest of your furniture.

Although the unit measures only 6.81″ x 6.62″ x 10.29″ (W x D x H), the Wave packs enough oomph to comfortably handle CPU-intensive tasks, which makes it ideal to use at home.

HP’s new PC will run Windows 10 and come with the following specs:

  • Sixth-generation quuad-core Intel Processor – up to i7
  • Between 8 and 16GB of DDR4 RAM
  • Up to 2 TB HDD storage with an option for a smaller dual SSD drive (up to 128GB)
  • Optional AMD Radeon R9 M470 graphics card

What’s particularly nifty about the Wave is that its gorgeous design is not simply a gimmick. The PC arrives with an impressive 360-degree multi-directional reflective audio technology that allows for a consistent audio experience regardless of the position of the device.

The Wave also includes a neatly hidden dual microphone system that will let you shout commands to Cortana from distance.

The device fashions a USB and a headphone jack on the front side of the box and, despite its minimalistic design, there’s also a strip of ports in the back, including USB-C, HDMI, and an SD card slot.

The Wave will be available on September 16 starting at around $529.
