Android Marshmallow now rolling out to BlackBerry Priv

Android Marshmallow now rolling out to BlackBerry Priv

BlackBerry has started rolling out an update for its Priv handsets that brings Android Marshmallow to the devices for the first time.

While Android N is already in developer preview – meaning a release isn’t all that far away – BlackBerry is delivering its Marshmallow upgrade for Android ahead of a few rival devices.

Among the changes are a new ways to keep tabs on your privacy settings and what your apps are up to, as well as tweaks to the BlackBerry Keyboard (200 new and updated emoji!) and Hub (Slack, Instagram and Pinterest updates are now supported). Given that these two areas are arguably the best reasons to buy the handset (if you like a physical QWERTY), it’s a highly worthwhile upgrade on paper.

BlackBerry also said that camera updates mean you can record 4k videos at 24fps or slow-motion shots at 120fps.

Priv owners can check for the update on their phones, which will roll out from today – but if you bought it through a network, you’ll likely need to wait for your provider to offer it directly.

And if you wanted an actual blackberry marshmallow recipe to get stuck in to while you wait, go right ahead.
