The mobile in-app advertising market is a lively one, but Web and desktop apps tend to be free of ads. Spotting an opportunity in this situaton, Danish startup InfluAds has launched a new product to help developers monetize their non-mobile apps.
The simply-named In-App Advertising service is designed to drive premium ad revenue to Desktop and Web apps. “We believe there is a huge untapped potential since those apps have a high, quality-driven share of mind from their audience which advertisers can leverage,” says InfluAds founder and CEO Anibal Damiao.
The service focuses on delivering relevant, carefully placed ads within apps. To help keep things tasteful, only one ad is allowed per page. It certainly seems to be working so far; Damaio says that in its first three days, the service saw an average 6.805% click-through rate.
While some app publishers, such as Evernote, support their free service with an ad placed in a desktop app, it can be difficult for many small-to-medium developers to source high quality ads. (UPDATE: In fact, Evernote tells us “Those ‘ads’ are only promotions for Evernote’s own services and partner integrations, and in fact Evernote’s business model is based almost entirely on conversion of Premium users”).
App publishers already signed up to Influads’ solution include Simplenote, Producteev and Boxcar. Developers and advertisers interested in the service can find out more and apply for the program here.
