Chinese New Year is arriving in a few days, and people in China are starting to make their way back home in a journey that has been called the world’s largest annual migration.
Chinese search giant Baidu has launched a Chinese New Year migration map that will be updated every hour for eight hours a day, which illustrates the most popular migration paths and provides detailed information such as where people leaving the big cities are heading to, and which cities and provinces people are leaving to go to Taiwan from, among other tidbits.
A Baidu spokesperson says the information is built on data from the more than five billion daily positioning requests sent to the Baidu LBS Open Platform via its products including Baidu Maps and other apps that use its positioning technology and services.
