Google Maps now has a ‘Catching Pokémon’ feature in Timeline

Google Maps now has a ‘Catching Pokémon’ feature in Timeline

Pokémon Go might be losing some steam, but the smash-hit mobile game is still popular enough for Google Maps to add a dedicated ‘Catching Pokémon’ activity option in Timeline.

That’s right. As noticed by Redditor GoldLeader272, you can now indicate in Maps when and where you’ve been playing Pokémon Go by selecting the newly added ‘catching Pokémon’ option.

To access the feature, open the menu in Maps and head to ‘Your timeline’. If you haven’t used Timeline until now, you’ll have to activate it before you can start tagging your Pokémon Go adventures.

Once you’ve done that, Timeline will start automatically tracking where you go to give you an overview of your daily movement. But more importantly, you’ll also have the option to modify how you’ve traveled from one point to another.

This is where you can indicate you’ve covered a certain distance ‘catching Pokémon’. To log or modify an event, open the activity details and click the edit button; this will let you choose between a number of activities, including the ‘catching Pokémon’.

While there’s not much to the feature, it’s certainly a nifty little addition as currently Pokémon Go doesn’t offer a tracking functionality.

So until game creator Niantic decides to fix this, you can log your Go hunting experiences in Maps. It’s probably not as convenient as in-game tracking, but hey – at least you’ll know where and when you caught that rare Porygon.
