8tracks overhauls its Android app to help you find the perfect mix

Following on from 8track’s major update to its iOS app earlier this year, the company today released its overhauled Android app to Google Play.

The update puts the focus on helping get users to the music they feel like listening to right now, by offering them a range of choices that add up to the ‘path of least resistance’ to finding music they like, as opposed to just presenting them with a list of artists or songs.

Just like the new iOS 8tracks app, the Android update brings a timeline of mixes you’ve recently listened to (to the left) and those that’ll play next (to the right). A new explore section offers the user a combination of genres, themes and moods which helps make it easier to find the perfect mix for their mood.

8tracks, a San Francisco-based company that’s been operating since 2008, is up against other curation services like Songza and Beats Music but doesn’t charge for music other than a subscription that lets users remove ads.

The company says that over the last year it’s experienced over 300 percent growth in many countries, without giving specific numbers. You can download the updated 8tracks app right now on the Google Play Store.
