Virgin brings its Sky Go rival Virgin Media TV Anywhere to Android, alongside nine new channels

Virgin brings its Sky Go rival Virgin Media TV Anywhere to Android, alongside nine new channels

It’s been a long time coming, but at last you can access Virgin Media TV Anywhere from your Android smartphone or tablet.

Billed as a competitor to Sky Go, Virgin TV Anywhere is a cloud-based service that gives you the ability to watch live TV over a Wi-Fi network. The service, free and exclusive for Virgin Media TiVo customers, was unveiled last year alongside an iOS app and browser-based portal for desktop users. Support for Android devices has been missing ever since, however.

To make amends, Virgin Media is adding an extra nine channels to its library: Alibi, Dave, Drama, Good Food, Home, Really, Watch, Yesterday and CBS Reality. This brings its final tally to 90 channels on the Web and 67 on smartphones and tablets – more than Sky Go, according to Virgin Media.

In addition to watching live TV, the new Android app can be used to manage recordings on your TiVo set-top box, review recommendations and even use your smartphone or tablet as a TV remote.
