Documentary.net releases iOS app for watching factual films on your small screen

Documentary.net releases iOS app for watching factual films on your small screen

If you’ve not already filled up your brand new iPhone with content, here’s something you might like if you’re a fan of factual films.

Documentary.net has released an iOS app for accessing all of the films usually found on its site.

The company offers the free and legal film streaming  of documentaries without regional and technical limitations. A refreshing aspect for those of us who have repeatedly faced a ‘Not available in your region’ when looking for something interesting to watch.

Through the new app, users can browse the films, look up topics, search and add favourites to a list for viewing later. If you only have limited time to watch, there is a time-based search available where users can specify whether they want to see something that is an hour-long, 30 minutes or shorter.

The service requires a solid connection for streaming as you might expect and for those would like to watch their flicks a little larger, there’s an iPad app on the way.

Always something to watch

There’s a truckload of good documentaries available online, searching YouTube or other sites might not be your cup of tea if you’re after something quickly. Even nicer, it’s free to watch.

Searching by topic also helps when you have something in mind, but you want to see a selection of opinions about that subject.

The films are created by thousands of professional content producers and TV stations which provide the material on the Internet for free. Documentary.net crawls the web and curates the films drawing from sources like YouTube and Vimeo, so that you don’t have to.

Via the company website, films can be viewed on PCs and Mac computers as well as on laptops or mobile devices like Android powered smartphones and tablets or iPhones and iPads.

Documentary.net works closely with filmmakers and producers to support their films but also to ensure the legal service. Filmmakers can also promote their films and trailers for free upon request.

Currently the site offers over 500 films with more to added on a daily basis. Films vary from multi-million dollar projects to Academy Awards or Palme d’Or winning work as well as films by indie movie makers.
