Google Changing the Way Misspelled Searches Work

picture-3Patrick over at blogstorm noticed a little nugget of interest. When incorrectly spelling “search engiine optimisation” he was offered the usual “did you mean…” however this time it was along with (supposedly) the top 2 results from the correct search query results.

I say “supposedly” because once Patrick searched using the correctly spelled query the top two results were not the same as the “top 2 correctly spelled results” from the previous incorrectly spelled query.

The significance of this may not seem all that apparent at first however for people/companies looking to achieve high rankings based on incorrectly spelled results – it clearly has an impact.

Whether this is a new tweak or something that began rolling out a while ago it’s clearly a step in the right direction.
