I love seeing the US government and startups work together for the greater good. No matter your political preference, the current administration in the White House has been embracing technology more than ever before, and that’s awesome.
Back in January, we were proud to announce that Codecademy and the White House partnered up to teach America’s youth how to code. Now, the White House is at it again, partnering up with GroupMe, Gilt Groupe, Tumblr, Knewton, OnSwipe, SV Angel and JIBE for SummerQAmp, a movement to create internships at leading tech companies.
SummerQAmp, launching today, is a nationwide initiative to train a new workforce in high-tech skills and help create tech jobs for American youth. It was developed as a commitment to the White House’s Summer Jobs+ initiative, a call to action for businesses, non-profits and government to work together to provide pathways to employment for low-income and disconnected youth this summer.
The initiative’s mission is to help keep the U.S. at the forefront of innovation, and I can’t help but find that real experience at leading companies will help make this a reality. In addition to the tech industry, Jon Bon Jovi is also getting in on SummerQAmp, and advocating the effort’s ability to empower at-risk youth.
Needless to say, 2012 is going to be a very big year for tech innovation, and we’re truly excited to be a part of it here at TNW.
