Investors are listening to the ongoing iPhone 4 signal debacle, and are trading accordingly. For the first time since late May, Apple is worth less than Microsoft on the public market.
When Apple’s market capitalization surged past Microsoft’s earlier this year, many heralded it as the second coming of Jobs and the end of the Microsoft era. Instead, with the company’s recent problems combined with this slip in share price, Apple’s dependence on the continued strength of a small handful of products has been laid bare.
Unlike Microsoft, which has a plethora of large businesses, Apple depends heavily on several consumer product lines. If one goes out of fashion, the company’s market value can tumble.
As of this post’s writing, Microsoft is worth $219.8 billion, and Apple $219.71 billion. You can track the two here.

Apple successfully creates fashion products since almost ten years. The problem with that is: what today is hip may be tomorrow’s flop.
However, Apple made it to grow up a loyal fan community. Now it will show up how they will keep at it.
Probably analyst are wrong again, probably Apple users don’t bail out. They love Apple not because of the technical goodness of its products but rather because of the emotional appeal.
Microsoft grew strong with selling feelings in the 80th and 90th, Apple failed in selling solutions in that time. Since 10 years, it seems the tide has turned. That created some momentum at the market. Hang in there!
Microsoft should not gloat. This is a small blip becuase of antena problems. Apple has a much stronger lineup of post-PC world that resonate with customers. Why?
WP7 is not out yet.
Microsoft has no story about a tablet.
Windows tablet is a minomer.
Instead of putting Windows on a tablet. They should have a convertible tablet with one side Windows 7 and other side Windows Phone 7.
It is not that Microsoft does not know about it. They do, but they can not act for various internal reasons.
Just checked: msft is at 221b and apple is back at 223b this morning. That didn’t last long… :-)
Poor apple fan boys. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. Wanna get a free bumper from me? Lol.
Microsoft FTW.
